Blog Number 6
It's time to review the first quarter. Look back through your portfolio (yes, I know I still need to do a portfolio check for some of you) and ponder the literature we've read and assignments we've done (or haven't done). Excluding summer reading, express your feelings about this body of work. What work made you neglect your Facebook account or your World of Warcraft friends? Or what work made you spend time with your family or clean underneath your bed? In other words, what did you like and what didn't you like? And of course explain why. 50 words.

Well in retrospect I would have to say that given my blatant obvious overachieving-ness that I would have to compliment Mr. Price on making completely unappealing novels, such as Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and making them appealing to the average high schooler. In a way Beowulf was the best thing I read, after the comparison the The Dark Night, on the other hand though the dialect was still a turnoff. But after the short stories that were read from the mysterious Medieval times. I used to look forward to class, until the Canterbury tales....
ReplyDeleteOKAY, so i hated Beowulf as you already know. i didn't read it AT ALL! i didnt like the green knight either..ew, so lame. & i think the only things i really liked was, 1) picking on you all the time 2) movie clips (except when you stop them at the good parts) 3) making fun of you, more 4) & i really like this canterbury tales its actually something fun for once! &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& one last thing, MR.PRICE YOU ARE THE BEST TEACHER I'VE EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR HAD.
ReplyDelete:) LINDS - 1ST PERIODDDDD.
P.S CAN YOU GIVE ME A GOOD GRADE.
P.S.S CAN YOU PUT IN OUT GRADES NOW?
P.S.S.S THANKS!
this quarter was loads of fun. my only real problem was sitting next to quinn. he copies everyones works, smells extremly bad and annoys you near suicide. Aside from that the quarter was good. The website is extremly handy always kept me in check on what i had to do.so good job you.
ReplyDeleteits been good. i havent really been interested to much in the actual stories them selves but how we actually get into them in the class is great. my only real problem is the due dates for homework thing. cause since i've moved i dont get onto the computer too much unless i have to cause its completely SLOW where i live at and get no kind of reception on my comuter. but that's definately something im going to be working a million times harder.

ReplyDeleteSo I've enjoyed the class so far. I like watching clips in class and doing group work. Nothing has been distasteful like in previous english classes. I dig the website. I'm enjoying references of myself in blogs and in vocabulary assignments. I really liked making up that story that probably had nothing to do with what you wanted me to say. You've done a good job in making me not want to fall asleep in class unlike in previous periods. K thanks.
BEOWULF was good.. everything else not so much i read the green knight when i was like 5 cuz i was bored and opened a big book of king arthurs and the millers tale.. is just dreadful horrible. its wierd humor cuz its cartoon characters and its very childish. Other than that this has been the best english class ive ever had. I think its alot of fun. It also keeps me awake in my pointless day of school.

ReplyDeleteI love this class sometimes. I liked READING the Green Knight and Beowulf. No one is going to agree with this but I dont care. Going over the boasts in class was hilarious. I didn't like being called emo though :). Hmm, well the vocab projects make me angry. I always forget. But I banged out the tests which was cool. So I don't know. Overall I liked the first quarter, and I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the year.
i thought that this class was going to be really hard and its not very hard it just got me doing i really dont want to do like use the computer like i am now... i rather be playing my ps3 tan this but one of the things that we did that i like is the hero story that is fun mine was the best but this acting thing that we doing now is wack i cant wait till its over
ReplyDeleteThe beginning of the year was plenty exciting. But now it's just like...duhhh. I guess because we're working in groups and it feels like we're in drama club or acting class than acutal english. Beowulf I liked, Amile was good but wierd as for the rest, was fill ins. The vocab we do every week or so is pretty fun too because we actually get to do something creative with it. I mean, it beats having to do five times each like we did in elementry school right? The rest of the year I hope is going to go well. After all, first quarter seemed to drag on long enough. I think I have a major case of senioritis right now.
ReplyDeleteI is thinks this class is easy lol bad grammar
ReplyDeleteso these projects are easy I'm just a procrastinated and being super lazy like Beowulf was good and the green knight. Vocabulary is not fun everyweek i cram it in every morning so this class is pretty fun and funny
Bryan Miller
ReplyDeleteummm there year has been better than i thougt it was going to be. there has been things i don't like to do in here, like the beowulf stuff cuz that took too long to do, but overall its been pretty fun. this skit we have to do now has been fun trying to make. the people in the class deffinately make the class go by faster and thats a good thing cuz i i'm ready for the class to be over for good............no offense Mr. Price

Yay for english! This first quarter made me actually like english. I used to hate English, but this class made it fun. This class we did a variety of assignments instead of just reading books taking notes and doing essays. This first quarter is a great success.

ReplyDeletePeriod 5
Well,, I am no good at anything to do with english. I suck at reading and writing and what not. I actually liked beowulf and the green knight once I found time to read them and actually do my assignment. Sorry about all my late work but thanks for accepting it.ha. The movie clips were bangin. Class has been fun. We still have three more quarters to go though.. =/ haha
everything was alright.i enjoyed most of the things we did even some of the readings the only thing i hated was writing poems with 15 syllables per line.lol i mean who does that, iguess mr.price does.i really liked watching clips of movies too, i finally saw the dark knight && loved it.:)
ReplyDeleteI love your class Mr. Price. You are somehow able to make stories like Beowulf and the green knight very intriging by the way you word things. lol This may be random but I loved watching Amelie! It was just so random I love how the narrator describes everyone. I loved the suicidal fish. LMAO XD
ReplyDeleteThamytra Smith
ReplyDeleteI liked how we used different natures of stories to express each unit. I liked blogging for your class :). I also liked how we watched common everyday movies and poems such as: The Dark Knight for the topic of epic heroes and The Lady of Shalott for the topic of cursed characters. The thing that i didnt like was watching The Wizard of Oz (thank you for not showing the singing scenes) because i have seen that movie a million times (lions, tigers and bears!!!! OH MY).

ReplyDeleteokay so i guess so far it was okay with everything that we have done. I like the days when its really chill and we watch movies, thats pretty cool. But some of the stuff we read and do work on was a bit boring. Maybe its just me, but whatev. Oh a beowulf was pretty cool too... ha last night strangely it was on tv.. lol oh yeah i like the projects we have to do there actually really fun.. :)
ReplyDeleteCari Hopson
ReplyDeleteThis quarter isnt too bad. I like the stuff we are doing now, its pretty fun. I HATED Beowulf, it was so boring i didnt even spark note it (you could probably tell by my quizzes) The green knight was exceptionally boring as well! I did spark note that one because it wasnt as bad as Beowulf. I like all the movie clips we watch, like that weird french movie and the wizard of oz...i just wish we could watch the whole thing instead of stopping in the middle of it! I like the blogs too, and all the homework and due dates being online. :) So ya your class is pretty cool.
:)
Sense late last year, I knew I'd enjoy classes being taught by you, because I feel I can relate to your style of whateverness. Journalism, fantastic! And despite my terrible procrastination, I do enjoy your English 12 Class. I didn't touch much on Beowulf because of timing that I Xfered into your class. I mega-loathe poetry, and because of this, I've opted to not do many (big) assignments. The boast. Efff. The Green Knight. Efff. But that's not to say I haven't enjoyed the Canterbury Tales, the power point slides dealing with Vocab, and the group activities. I feel that with the group activities, I'm more likely to complete assignments because it's not just me being hurt if I do not. Less poetry would be ideal, but because of the grade and type of english, it's not realistic. lol. Now I'm off, time to go play more Warcraft.
ReplyDeleteWell I know one thing I didnt like and that was reading beowulf. The activities that we did with it were alot of fun though like the boast and the comparisons between beowulf and the dark knight. Another thing I hated was the wizard of oz. I personally think we should have watched the Wiz but I wont be picky. I had alot of fun walking around the school searching for something to admire and Im having a great time with this group skit that we are putting on.
ReplyDelete(Kendra Cline)
ReplyDeleteThere was too much vocabulary and the projects were too closely dated. Plus, the whole drawing all the time was horrible because not everyone was given the ability to draw wonderfully! And we need more stories that relate to us. Beowulf seemed kind of pointless. But The Green Knight was pretty good because of the crucial graphics! But besides those things, you're an awesome teacher!

ReplyDeletegrr.....(;
this isn't my entry, i'm just bored...
more to come later...
sorry to build so much suspense boo-bear...
I did not like Beowulf. Period. It was so annoying. The Green Knight was ok. The movie was so cheesy felt like we could have made a better version of that then that hunk of crap. There were times when we were craming in a lot of work which sucked for me and my other classes but most of the time it is just laid back and if you try you pass so it has been good....so far hmmm im watching you price. Sloan just you wait i got things in store for you
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the hero stuff and Beowulf i did not like the green knight and i thought the movie was pretty dumb. Also i Think the wizard of oz stuff was pointless and stupid you need a new movie. The movie clips worksheets were ok though. Also the boast was kind of stupid to,
ReplyDeletefist quarter in this class has be absolutly tantalizing! I have had to do barely any work at all! Being in AP the first couple weeks of school prepared me for the first couple of vocab quizes you dished out at me, and everthing else has been coloring! this class is awesome, and i can't wait to put on my skit with my group for cantabury tales! sorry for giving the finger to the class in the first week! gotta love first impressions!
ReplyDeleteAlex Tierney
ReplyDeleteThis quarter was a blasty blast. I would have to say that it is much better acting out The Canterbury Tales than actually reading it. Also, I liked The Green Knight, even though i didn't do so hot on the quiz. Personnel prolouges were pretty cool. I like the poem and then a drawing of it idea. Hopefully the next 3 quarters with be just as fun.
Bewoulf made me blow off Ap physics for a day and then i said it wasnt worth it. I thought the green night was a great subject to touch on yes it is all about head chopping but it actually got me into the book. A little weird with the kissing thing and the fact that it is his aunt a little weird but it gave me a better out look on life and made me think that I should not be to gung ho without thinking about what i might be getting myself into. ITs a very good subject not only as a lesson but also light your students look into them selves a little deeper if they read it and question their Ethics. The movie skits are great in helping us bring out a character and then having you question their ethics or what the main character is really trying to get out of life. Also your making us thinking differently or at least ry to look at something in a different angle light however you may put very helpful to ME at least in thinking differently at people and in the literature way slash English british way. Would of like to have compared the original bewoulf to the grendels side of the story and done a compareson of how the two would actually look at each other. Dont like the vocab but its a grade so it helps and you try to keep it interesting either in the hopes keep your sanity or to keep us motivated dont know but iot keeps me motivated.
ReplyDeleteYes Mr. Price I miss spelled a few words and left some words out by accident.
ReplyDeleteso i did not like reading the beaoful nor the green knight, i didnt like do any of the poems. i liked the movie clips except wished we couldve actually let them continue instead of stopping them at the good parts. & i guess these skits things are okay. ohh & i like this website.. its handy
ReplyDeleteOk so first off Mr. Price I love you!!! (sorry that’s not meant to be in a creepy way lol) You are by far the coolest teacher I have ever had! I enjoy the blogs a lot there a fun way to express myself on whats going on in class, and it has kept me off facebook for a little bit. I didn’t like the boast speech. It was a pain in the @$$. Well I just didn’t like boasting to the class. And I don’t like the reading portion of the class but the acting and group stuff is fun. So yeahhhhhh im liking the class.

To be honest, I've been enjoying this class thus far. The activities are generally engaging. Stories like Beowulf and The Green Knight... I would read them with little interest for the sake of memorizing it and getting back to doing whatever I do. But with the use of different media, like movie clips and the portfolio (which is so easy to manage), I end up looking forward to what this class has in store every day.
Not only that, but the environment of the class is inviting. My classmates are friendly and familiar faces, and I feel more comfortable being there. The same goes for Mr. Price; you're really a great teacher, and I can tell you put a lot of effort into what you do. You connect well with the students, which really helps in the long run. (And I'm not saying that to get on your good side. I'm being honest.lol)
Because of this, I feel so much more confident in myself. During my Canterbury skit today, I hardly even trembled. I had FUN. That's never happened. I was comfortable with everyone around watching, and I pushed myself so you-all would hopefully be able to enjoy the skit more. I find that I'm growing from this class, something that I really need right now.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't like every assignment. I hated the Boast, but that's because I really dislike exalting myself. (You know, being a typical teenager living off of low self-esteem and all.) That's more of a personal thing than an issue with the actual assignment.
I hope that all of us can keep improving, learning, and getting as much as we can from this class, while at the same time enjoying it along the way. Maybe it won't be as painful that way...maybe. Third quarter's still kind of intimidating.
I honestly dont care for any of the litrature we have read this quarter. But if I were to pick one it would have to be Beowulf. Maybe it was just the we did alot of cool activities and projects with that piece of literature but out of all the readings I have done IN SCHOOOL Beowulf would have to be the best of all of them.
ReplyDeleteMEGAN SEARS
ReplyDeleteBeowulf.. well I guess it was ok. The visualization project would of been fun but I am not creative or artistic so it just look like poo. I really like how we used super heroes like batman to compare it to beowulf. I enjoyed shrek as well. The french movie... weird. The chauver project is ok.. would of been alot more fun if my play didnt suck, but i guess that my own fault.. overall first quarter was fun i just hope second quarter it a breeze. haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Well I hate reading and I didn't LOVE any of the things we read eather, how ever I liked most of the projects. The visual projects where my favorit. I love art and I think I learn best through visuals. I also mae sure I had fun with any creative project we where given even the wrighting ones. I think that the only project I did seriously was he hero essay an that still wasnt to bad, I think it was because we had some freedome in what we could wright.
ReplyDeleteRyan
ReplyDeleteI do like what we do and how you make connections to modren things such as The Dark Knight and Beowulf the movie not the book because I do like to read unless I get into it which is hard to do. But over all it has been a good first quarter and it can only get better.

Looking back through my portfolio i found that alot of the things that we had to do were pretty simple. We had to do a sh** load of work but it was all fairly easy so i can not really complain. Plus with Dylan sitting right next to me every day in class it motivated me to do my work:) ahh what a guy! Ohh and Pricedogg is pretty cool too. You make the class fun unlike some of the boring teachers in the school who really do not know how to teach.
this is charles.
ReplyDeleteTo add on what i already said. i think Beowulf was really cool being all naked and hansom. um.. the Green knight was alright but i really hate sir gawain or whatever his name was his bowl cut made me throw up in my mouth a little. um the wife of bath was performance was pretty fun shes a slut with all them husbands so i kinda frowned upon that but got over it for the sake of the play. vocab is easy and fun not looking forward to final on the words and thats all i have left to say
Emma Tomalewski
ReplyDeleteI know Beowulf isn't one of the assignments that you can change but I have to say it was one of the worst things I have ever read. It was one of those assignments that you just want to put off for the last minute because you really just don’t want to do it. The majority of the other assignments I enjoyed doing. But I do have to say maybe you should have less drawling projects. I am not an artist and even though it is fun to draw at times you do have to think of the art challenged people (such as myself).
So, at least the first quarter is almost over...three left. I Really didn't like this whole group presentation bit, sure it took up time and class and all, but i can write the script, thats about it on that. The vocabs are pretty easy, so thats a plus. There was the easy Catman covered essay, not too bad. Lets see, Beowulf made me hate myself, But i did manage to snag the whole Herot name for my ikariam game, using it as a capital name... Hated that Beowulf Lineage... and from there, it was fairly easy, the weekly vocab assignments are fairly dead on and get us to visualize the material instead of working like the prisoners of society, constantly writing down things and drilling them into our skulls, only to forget them the next day, failing a test, whereas the visualization forces us to remember it on our own terms with a single look, we could recite the definition, and at least we have a 1/3 of the test right. yeah, im not going pessimist on this one.
ReplyDeleteI'm not into stories like Beowulf and The Green Knight, but it wasn't to bad. I just put up with it. ha. Writing 500 poems was annoying, but I'm not that horrible at it so it was whatever. The group project for Canterbury Tales was SO FRUSTRATING in the beginning, considering I wrote the whole script myself, BUT in the end it was pretty fun. Besides the fact that it took a while to get all that glue off my face. Overall, first quarter was pretty fun. I look forward to english now.

ReplyDelete5th Period
During the first quarter I liked the activity we did when we had to write about ourselves through someone else's viewpoint. I liked this because we got to tell the class things about ourselves they might not have known. I also liked the Canterbury Tale plays we just did because it was a nice relaxing way to finish up the quarter and if you worked in class to get the play organized then it was an easy way to increase your grade before the quarter ends. I did not like the voacb assignnments because they didn't seem to help me out on the tests.
Thomas Bernier
ReplyDeleteFor the first time in high school, english has not made me want to yank out my own hair. Beowulf wasn't my favorite, but the assignments were easy enough, and I've certainly read worse in high school. The arthurian legends were pretty good, I especially enjoyed when we compared the Lady of Shallot with Amelie; it was really interesting seeing how they paralleled eachother. And even though a lot of people thought that Amelie was too weird, I actually found it rather entertaining. The Canterbury Tales were great, both the learning about them and the preasentation. Basically, I found an english class where I actually care enough to do the work in...mostly...the rest I'm at least ready to do make-up for.
I thought Beowulf was kinda cool. It was kinda morbid and I liked that. The Canterbury tales were really cool and I think they all taught us a good moral or two. The only thing i really HATEEEE about this class is VOCABULARY. Ughhhhh I never do it because #1 I forget and #2 Im never going to remember those rediculous words anyways. I feel as if its just busy work.
ReplyDeleteCasey Tibbs Pd.1
ReplyDeleteFirst i would like to say that before this year i absolutely dreaded english. Mr. Price even though your a jerk, I love your class. So i really didnt mind beowulf. I thought it was pretty neat especially the head chopping. I could do without the boast because im not a fan of saying good things about me. That Amelie movie was totally awesome, kinda weird but i loved it. Im glad you dont teach the boring old way and actually make english fun. I liked the Canterbury Tales, i thought the projects were fun. So basically i like your class :)
Tina!
ReplyDeleteThis class is my fav! I love how you do the clips the only thing is i wish they were longer..like the whole class period.Beowulf was okay,i'm not a huge fan of the way they talk though. The best part of the class so far was the Canterbury Tales :) Got to say that was a lot of fun! It's a good class sir.
TURTLE!!!
ReplyDeleteAlright so Beowulf and the green knight were okay.. I could deal with them. I hated the boast because i was sick that day and didn't feel like presenting. I love the blogs because they are fun and i like reading everyone's thoughts. I HATE that vocab. assingments, I've only done one!!!! Because i always forget about them and then I fail the quizes. :( But Canterbury Tales i liked a lot!!! It was fun to get to put together the skit and i was really happy with my group because i didn't expect us to be able to pull it off with Robby being sick and we couldn't stop laughing but i was really proud of us in the end!!! But overall I think the quarter has gone okay.
Tyler McCaffery
ReplyDeleteThe projects in this class are generally fun to do and are not too time consuming. Although I'm not sure how much they really teach you about the stories. Also the comparison between movies and the stories are interesting, as it shows where modern movies may have gotten some of their themes from. The one thing I don't like are the blogs, they are berly worth doing, in that their pointless and don't really teach anything. This class still remains as one of the better english classes I've had, the stories are atleast if not completly better than something like "The Scarlet Letter".
Ashley Smith period 5
ReplyDeleteok well i HATED Beowulf because it was so boring. And i hated the fact that we kept taking test on it when i didn't read it. so Maybe if you skip Beowulf next year the grades in your class will be alot better. But on the other hand i really enjoyed when we got to do our play's because we were able to make our script and etc. I felt like it was a great way to be creative ans express ourselves. So hopefully we have should do more or that.
becca pd. 5
ReplyDeleteOk so I did the other one wrong so Im redoing it. So far I'm not to into the stories but i like how we compared grendel to shrek for Beowulf. And the heroes thing to batman and the joker. I did like the admiration poems even though some of the ones I heard that other people wrote were a little weird haha. Oh and The Chaucer presentation was definately my favorite so far :)
Clint
ReplyDeleteI like the group projects like the play thing and how you gave us time to practice. I also like how we analyze movies and the characters in them. I'm not a big fan of the reading though, like beowulf and the green knight...i also like this blog thing too.
this quarter has been ruff. Although i enjoyed wacthing the clips. when you are absent there is alot of work to catch up on. Sometimes i think the homework is dum. I didn't like the Green Knight Tale. I say the class is easy if you are organized.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHa-ha well, first quarter was definitely a reintroduction period for me. I had a good time meeting my classmates in group activities. I look forward to working with more people in the class and better my knowledge of how to present myself in front of them. I fell behind at the beginning there because of absences but I caught up after I took all the tests so that sucks... The vocabulary was easily accessed via the web meaning I didn’t have to search through my book bag to find another copy. I liked that so it made turning them in late really easy; so for that I give you props Mr. Price.
ReplyDeleteso about thius class first quarter... its amazing! My favorite thing was our performances last week even though i was freaking out. I like how you have the website set up so i can easily find what i need for your class from any computer. Extremely convienient. I hate reading so the times where we had to read the green knight and the other Beowulf wasn't fun for me but that is partially because i have an attention span the size of an ant. There wasn't much I didn't like so far. Nothing significant enough to tell you or something you can change. (:
ReplyDeletefirst quarter was good i enjoyed the different assignments that we did. The best parts were when we watched movies and connected them to the unit we were working on. Watching the movies helped me to connect things way better then just reading would have.

ReplyDeletepd. 6!
I have really loved everything that we have done in class. I love how you put a really artistic and fun spin on the projects, it makes it easier to learn and to actually want to do. My favorite thing has been the group Canterbury tales performences. THEY WERE SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN!! I got along great with my group and I loved trying to incorporate all of the great ideas we had.
Robbie Price
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the out-of-the-box activities that pulled away from the conventional papers and essays (excluding the papers and essays, of course) and I really liked the Canterbury Tales performances.
Jordan DiFatta p.5
ReplyDeleteActing projects are a lot of fun. This past project that we just did was a lot of fun because there wasn't a lot of writing involved it was mostly just having fun and doing whatever for 2 weeks. We should do more prrojects like that. Also vocab was hard to remeber to do so we should stop doing that. Lets just do acting stuff the rest of the year and no m ore writing stuff or essays
This quater was pretty rough and boring in the begining it Sucked so bad!!! It was not funny. But now since we have been doing this play thingy and having more fun, it is not as bad now. But you are an awesome teacher and you make it a lot easier to understand english. so thanks p dog lol

This quarter was very interesting. This class has been very different from my previous english classes. At first, I didnt like being given several assigments over a period of time, but ive gotten used to it and its starting to grow on me. I like Mr. prices teaching methods. I cant really find anything to complain about. i know, its a shock
yo real talk i love the class even though i always forget to do these damn blogs, its whatever though you still my main man and my fav teacher and thats from the heart son. you keep things funky and freshh in the class room to. And you my fav teacher. Much love to ya pimpin

ReplyDeleteokay, coming from 6th period, i'd have to say that the first quarter was alot of fun. This class is very different from any other class i've ever taken and from what ive experienced so far, i know the rest of the year is bound to be a hell of alot of fun. i really liked all the talk of vikings. that stuff is freakin cool no matter what, and it was a great way to start off the year(Props to Price). then we've got vocab/essays/little insignificant process grades arent always the most fun, but lets face it, they're all simple and never hard to ace. whether i remember to do them or not is my own problem. canterbury tales project/performance was alot of fun too. i think its good practice for what we've got lined up for the rest of the year, and especially our "end of year performance". which im super stoked for. all in all, i had a great time this quarter, and im definately looking forward to the next three.
lochlan
ReplyDeleteokay after reviewing other peoples thoughts, i want to punch alot of them in the face for their uncultivated, empty-headed comments. idk how any of you had any problems with any of the assignments so far. not only did you have problems, but you affronted something like the green knight, which (if read from the book alone) could have been extremely boring and unapealing, but it was turned into something that alot of people would actually enjoy. i strongly disagree with all of you who decided to say that the assignments were dumb, or a waste of time. you are a bunch of ludicrous and incongruous students.
i am not good at english period. this class is alot of work but i like it. only one thing is we get so many things at once i sometimes get myself all confused but that will work out better as i get used to it. i do like the way all the work is organized in our folders thought.
ReplyDelete
